Podcast Marketing Academy Publishes 2024 Podcast Marketing Trends Report

For Release On November 13, 2024

Today, podcast marketing education and media company, Podcast Marketing Academy published their inaugural Podcast Marketing Trends Report. Based on a survey of 515 podcasters who shared 12 months of month-by-month download data, the report breaks down these shows according to both growth rate and show size and compares and contrasts their approaches to creating and marketing their shows, as well as updating the marketing benchmarks established by the inaugural 2023 Report.

“The 2023 report answered a lot of the questions I had always wondered about when it come to taking a more data-driven approach to podcast marketing,” said Podcast Marketing Academy Founder, Jeremy Enns. “But even before that first report had wrapped up, it opened up a number of new questions that I wanted to explore in more depth with this new report. On top of that, I also wanted to get a better sense of how the benchmarks we established last year held consistent or changed, and if so, how much.”

The report features data collected from shows from six continents, multiple languages, and all major formats and genres. Cumulatively, the shows polled have produced more than 28,000 episodes and received more than 2 Billion downloads.

Key findings of the report include the following metrics, cross-analyzed by both show size and growth rate:

  • Month-over-month and annual growth rates
  • Median episode length
  • Episode release schedule
  • Total number of episodes published
  • Episode consumption rate
  • Marketing channel usage
  • Social media platform usage
  • Monthly budget
  • Weekly time investment into production & marketing
  • And more

Speaking of the findings of the report, Enns shared, “The past year and a half has been a tumultuous time in the podcast industry, and the data definitely reflects that. If the median growth rates we uncovered last year were depressing, the benchmarks from this year are downright morbid. That said, for the vast majority of creators who struggled to grow, or even shrank over the previous year, the report should be some consolation that it’s not just them. On the flip side, however, we did see a number of shows this year that grew by a much larger amount than any shows in last year’s report, so significant growth is definitely still possible for shows of all sizes.”
